Help preserve and distribute Srila Prabhupada's vani & receive the complete audio library for $108.00Why keep the vani of His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada under lock and key in one building ? Let every home, every building be an archive. One building can easily be burned, bombed or destroyed in a second, then what ? In reply to a recent posting regarding the preservation of Srila Prabhupada's vani devotees are asking "who is really preserving Srila Prabhupada's vani ?" It has come to our attention that not only are Srila Prabhupada's books being rewritten, but his audio tapes are also being heavily edited. Supposedly the explanation is that the lectures and discussions are being made to fit nicely onto 60 minute tapes. Fortunately there is one version of the folio with all of the original books and transcripts. We've noticed time and time again when reading the transcript while listening to the tape that there are splices and cuts made left and right. Now the digital technology is so high tech t ož ¢4 ¢4 a clean splice with no clicks. These are the tapes are which are being put out by Bhaktivedanta Archives, nice clean cuts but the original transcript makes em stick out like a soar thumb. One devotee writes "As for the BA's attempts at "preserving" Srila Prabhupada's lecture tapes every time they "preserve" the tapes they take the opportunity to EDIT the tapes!! In the early 90's they "preserved" the tapes to dat tapes. It took them so long because they were actually editing the tapes. The reason given was so all the tapes would fit on 60 min tapes... So now all of Srila Prabhupada's lecture tapes fit on 60 min tapes... the extra bits were edited out. Now they are making a selection of Srila Prabhupada's classes available on CD's. But these are selected classes only, not the complete set, and they are also quite heavely edited. The digital audio technology is now very good. No more pops and clicks. Just perfect edits... So there are some of us who actually like to hear the original, unedited tapes of Srila Prabhupada's classes. So we have preserved the lecture tapes from the early 80's and they will now be available forever." Conversations with His Divine Grace printed in Back to Godhead magazine under the title "Srila Prabhupada Speaks Out" are also found to have blatant and conspicuous editing when compared to the original transcripts. In some instances Srila Prabhupada's responses are literally rewritten in someone elses words. Apparently someone thinks they can say it better than His Divine Grace. One can see in places by comparing both versions that the editor assumes his version to be more palatable or less controversial, but we stick with Srila Prabhupada's famous motto "As it Is". His Divine Grace states himself "You'll find, therefore, in the comments of Bhagavatam by different acaryas, even there are some discrepancies, they are accepted as asat-patha. It should remain as it is." (Vrndavana, March 31, 1976) As far as the distribution of Srila Prabhupada's vani, we've noticed in Iskcon world review issue after issue that there is practically never any advertisement for Srila Prabhupada's tape ministry. We see advertisements for everyone's tape ministry from A-Z, but where is Srila Prabhupada's? So the Bhaktivedanta tape ministry evidently is not on the priority list but aside from that there are many devotees who would like a complete set of their spiritual masters recordings but cannot afford to shell out hundreds or thousands. One devotee writes "I was initiated by SP but have never been able to afford the tapes and thus have not been hearing from my spiritual master as much as I would like too." Fortunately this scenario no longer needs to be the case. With the advent of new computer technology all of Srila Prabhupada's recordings are now being made easily available and affordable to all. Times have changed since the days of early Christianity when the power of knowledge remained exclusive to the elite circle of Roman clergy and politicians in cahoots at the head of the church.
