EDITORIAL July 2, 1999 VNN4211 Comment on this story Krsna Conscious TV Is Alive And Well BY VRIN PARKER EDITORIAL, Jul 2 (VNN) — A recent article about Public Access TV was posted on VNN. I was very happy to see that an attempt at organization is finally being made. However I wanted to bring up some points. I have been involved in this preaching field for over 3 years now and am presently on the Programing Committee of CTV of Lane County, Oregon. I am very familiar with the workings of Public Access. I am also involved with putting Krsna Conscious shows on TV in the Hawaii islands. In his article Jagat-Traya Prabhu states that in order to air shows on Public access, you must record them onto 3/4 inch tapes. I am happy to let all interested devotees know that this is no longer the case, The only requirements, in most stations, are: 1)There be 30 seconds black at the beginning and end of each show. 2)The show be sponsored by a local resident 3) Local contact info be provided. Legally, the only way a tape can be rejected, is if it is technically deficient. On the new Iskcon Communications website, they have a section about the History of Krsna Conscious TV. Obviously, the author is not aware of the various ongoing Krsna Conscious TV programs being aired in various places around the country. Hopefully, they will read the copy of this letter that I sent them and add the info to their website. According to their website, one would have the impression that Krsna conscious TV is dead. Though some Temples here and there couldn't keep the programs going, the good news is that various devotees have managed to keep this important preaching field alive and well. This is a perfect example of what Srila Prabhupada meant when he said,"What is Iskcon? Iskcon can be right here, under this tree." In other words, this preaching movement is not dependent on this or that temple or organization, but it is dependent on the sincere desires and efforts of the people who have dedicated their lives to preaching Krsna consciousness and thus creating a society that is actively Conscious of God (Krsna). It is indeed good news that an organizational effort is finally being made to facilitate those people interested in preaching through the media. A good first step would be to recognize and communicate with those already engaged in this field. Below I will list the various devotees and Krsna Conscious shows that are currently being aired in various places in the country. These are only those that I know of, so please forgive me if I don't mention any programs I am obviously unaware of. The fact is the need for some sort of networking has been in the extreme and i am hopeful that iskcon communication will finally begin to recognize the struggles and efforts of those people who have dedicated years and much of their personal incomes to preach in one of the most important mediums available, the media.
