Law Books For The Next 10,000 Years
BY PRATYATOSA DASA
EDITORIAL, Jun 16 (VNN) Dear Prabhus, please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada!
Here is a controversy which I would like to have cleared up:
Gauridasa Pandita ("Eye witness" to what Narayana Maharaja said): ...I said that Srila Prabhupada is still present in his books and the books are the law books for the next 10,000 years.
Maharaja said that Srila Prabhupada never said that.
Pratyatosa: This quote by Srila Prabhupada is common knowledge within ISKCON. How can Narayana Maharaja say that Prabhupada never said it?
Puru: Because he never did Pratyatosh.
Puru: Lookin the folio [Vedabase]. There is nothing in it that says his books will be the law books for the next 10,000 years."
Pratyatosa: That doesn't mean that he never said it! Only a tiny fraction of what Srila Prabhupada said is in the Folio. Most of the time, there was no tape recorder running.
Pratyatosa: But, there are witnesses. Testimony by witnesses will even stand up in court.
Pratyatosa: Another example of something that was "common knowledge within ISKCON" is that Srila Prabhupada said that the women in LA would feel satisfied because they get to "dance on the heads of the men" (up in the temple room balcony)! [Srila Prabhupada said this in response to a proposal, when the new temple room at ISKCON Los Angeles was about to open, that all of the women be "banished" to the balcony during kirtans and japa.
This occurred in 1975 or 76. This statement by Srila Prabhupada spread through ISKCON like "wildfire".] But, again, it didn't make it into the Folio because it wasn't recorded on tape.
Bhudhara (Another "Eye witness" to what N.M. said): What Maharaja said was that "Srila Prabhupada has never written that in his books." In other words, Gauridas Pandit may have heard him say that, but as in all things shastric the final word is what is written down by the acharya.
Pratyatosa: This statement by Srila Prabhupada, that "My books will be the law books for the next 10,000 years." is very significant, even though it may not be written down in his books, or in the Vedabase. This needs to be researched, and witnesses to this statement located, and exact quotes by these witnesses recorded.
