EDITORIAL February 9, 1999 VNN2978 Hearing BY ARIJIT DAS EDITORIAL, Feb 9 (VNN) — His Divine Grace Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur Appearance Day On this most auspicious day we can consider qualities necessary for advancement in Krishna consciousness. The life teachings of Sriman Bhaktisiddhanta have given us many examples of strength, determination, and focus of a sincere vaisnava. He has established the course that we as aspiring bhaktas must follow. On this course there are many thieves and rouges whom disguised as saints will exploit the naive sentiments of foolish neophyte sentimentalists. There is a saying that the cheaters will get cheated. Therefore the followers of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati must endeavor to establish the true religion of the day. Sriman Bhaktisiddhanta has displayed the perfect example following in direct disciplic line from Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu has established what it means to be a lover of Krishna. Placing Krishna as the topmost personality of Godhead Sri Chaitanya lived his life in loving service in the mood service in separation. He established throughout his travels the fact that Krishna is a cause of all causes and that we as jiva souls must render loving service to him for it is our natural position for our eternal benefit. Followers of Mahaprabhu such as Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur have taught us not only by their personal example but also in written word as to how we can serve Krishna. They mention Sravanam (HEARING) about the glorious activities of the supreme personality of Godhead and his liberated associates. In the holy literature "Bhagavat Gita" Krishna mentions that he appears in this world time and time again for the purpose of establishing true religious principles and removing the burden the earth which she is forced to carry due to the actions and reactions of rebellious living beings. By eliminating evil action and reaction the earth will then be restored to her natural and healthy condition. In this state living beings can peacefully cultivate spiritual understanding. Spiritual understanding begins by hearing. His Divine Grace Sriman Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur has clearly mentioned that we must hear from an authorized source otherwise we may misunderstand what "IS" actually in our real interest. The possibility of falling away to cheap imitation and or mental speculation is very real. The devotional process is simple but we must look deep within ourselves (Saranagati) and when the sincere desire to have a loving relationship with Krishna is foremost then the Supersoul will put us in connection with a "Bona fide" spiritual master from whom we can hear about the real Krishna, Krishna's real transcendental activities in relationship to all his eternal associates and the result of this sincere type of hearing will be that our hearts will be truly cleansed. After this initial cleansing our minds will be filled with nutrition, enthusiast energy will generate and we will begin to remember Krishna more and more. Wave after divine wave. This hearing and remembering is the beginning stage of our journey back to home back to Godhead. We therefore must be very careful to avoid offenses to the Holy Name. So on this very auspicious day let us look within our hearts and remember His Divine Grace Sriman Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Prabhupada and with pure devotion vibrate the holy names of the Lord.
