| EDITORIAL November 14, 1998 VNN2504 Srila Prabhupada's Movement BY SATYAHIT DAS EDITORIAL, Nov 14 (VNN) — Jai Srila Prabhupada !!! Most of Srila Prabhupada's disciples were dedicated to Srila Prabhupada, so when 11 other god brothers took over as gurus of ISKCON, most of Srila Prabhupada's disciples either had to worship these new gurus or leave, so many left. Two of Srila Prabhupada's disciples said to me yesterday that the zonal gurus usurped the movement from Prabhupada's devotees. What ever the case is, this is definitely their feeling on the matter. The disciples of the new gurus appear to be very naive about what happened in ISKCON after Srila Prabhupada departed. They don't relate to us devotees who were in ISKCON since the 60's with Srila Prabhupada only at the helm. They do not realize the distastefulness of our seeing persons taking over Srila Prabhupada's position in their own ways. They say, "why don't you and others join the movement and take over responsible positions in a helpful manner". But unfortunately for us the movement is not the same movement we joined. It has different leaders . We joined Srila Prabhupada's movement, not someone else's. With Srila Prabhupada at the helm, it always felt as though Supreme justice was always present. Then it became led by some individuals unable to lead themselves even. Apparently Satsvarupa swami said that he did make some mistakes in the past but he "still simply wants to go on with his Krsna consciousness." When I mentioned this to one of Srila Prabhupada disciple's they said, "oh great, he will pursue his Krsna consciousness & leave us other disciples of Srila Prabhupada, who do not care to worship him, on the outside of ISKCON. Well, we suppose that if no division in ISKCON or elsewhere for this matter, appeared, then we would be in the spiritual world where everyone is in agreement. But factually, we all reside in this hellish material world, where name, fame, prestige, and the general struggle for existence is predominant. Only Srila Prabhupada was truly different. He was everyone's well wisher, as He signed His letters. He actually loved us all. We conditioned souls actually have no love because of being disturbed by lust and anger. Well, I'll speak for myself, but my conditioned self also gives me opportunity to see the resemblance in others. One thing is most evident and certain, which is that the original 11 did not care for their own god brothers and sisters who were not satisfied with their guru takeover. They could care less about our feelings and simply went on to gather new disciples. This is simple undisputed fact. Or why is it that the vast majority of Srila Prabhupada's disciples left ISKCON? All 8,000 of them. There were apparently 10,000, so 8,000 is a moderate figure thinking that possibly 2000 are still internally involved in ISKCON. Even if our god brothers in ISKCON were to say to us, please come back and assist us to serve Srila Prabhupada. Here, you can do this etc., then we may return, but even this is not the case.
