The Solution Is In Knowing The Cause Of The Sins

BY SIDDHAJANA DASA

EDITORIAL, Jun 26 (VNN) — In a recent article entitled Sins Of The Brothers, Sins Of The Sons, the author touched on the "sins" being committed by some of our god brothers and sisters who refuse to accept any vaisnava other than an ISKCON member surrendered to the authority of the GBC. He also touched on possible solutions to those types of "sins". The "sins" being sectarianism, fanatical Prabhupadanuganism, zonalism, over-possesionism of Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, boasting-ism of Srila Prabhupada as the only one to spread Krsna consciousness around the world, closing-ism of the doors on vaisnavas, unnecessary associating-ism with university mundane scholars instead of advanced raganuga vaisnavas in the university of the gopis, (ask Sri Uddhava about that university), instead of properly receiving the Bhaktivedanta/Bhaktisiddhanta/Bhaktivinode and other such vaisnava distinguished titles, they wish to receive the Phds/MA/BA etc on the pretext of writing papers on Srila Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada. There are many more isms such as "ritvikism", that have begun to develop due to only one major cause neglected by some ISKCON devotees. The cause is an incomplete understanding of the principles and acceptance of siksa guru tattva.

For instance, if some devotees continue to think that Srila Prabhupada Bhaktivedanta is the only one to spread Krsna consciousness throughout the world, or will be the only one to do this, then they have not appreciated the first principle in guru tattva. Krsna says in Bhagavad Gita from time to time as the disciplic succession becomes distorted, he sends His confidential servants or He comes Himself. This means there are many "Prabhupadas" to appear. Hence, when some devotees after having captured the basic essence of Krsna consciousness, see that they are being held back by narrow-minded leaders who boast only of their spiritual master, they do the right thing and give up such neophyte boastful thinking.  Srila Prabhupada's English preaching to the Western world was not the first attempt and therefore was not unique. His spiritual master Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Prabhupada, first started this process, and had already written many books in the English language and sent devotees to Europe to preach. Whether that preaching was successful or not is not our business for judging. Our business is to recognize our spiritual master's special and unique adaptations in bringing Krsna consciousness to the West. Nothing in that special preaching constituted a boast as him being the best spiritual master. His spiritual master requested him to preach in the English language. He simply followed that request to the letter. That he says is his actual credit. There is no place in Krsna consciousness to boast of one's spiritual master.  Worshiping the spiritual master does not constitute boasting of the powers of the spiritual master. Vaisnavas worship the spiritual master not because he is very powerful or personally empowered by Krsna, but because he is an "ocean of mercy" and a direct representative of God who gives freely to everyone, love of Godhead. Of course the spiritual master is very powerful. That is known. What is not known is how merciful he is. That mercy is to be realized.  Not his actual empowerment Krsna gave to him. This empowerment will be known only after we know how merciful Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada is.

The spiritual master's power is not his own power. It is Krsna's internal potency, specifically the hladini sakti-the topmost potency of Krsna that he has attained by dint of his own surrender and proper worship of his spiritual master. One does not gain this potency by boasting of his spiritual master's power. Therefore Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu has stated "trnad api sunicena taro api sahisnuna, amamnina manadena kirtaniyah sada harih."  "Thinking oneself to be even lower and more worthless than insignificant grass which has been trampled beneath everyone's feet, being more tolerant than a tree, being pride-less, and offering respect to all others according to their respective positions, one should continuously chant the holy name of Sri Hari".  Boasting comes from being proud of one's achievement or in the case of one's spiritual master's achievements.

The uniqueness of Srila Prabhupada was that he organized a spiritual society in the midst of a material society, where men and women freely associated. He therefore allowed both men and women to live in the ashrams by separating their living quarters. Men lived in one section which was completely separated from the women's ashram.   This was unheard of before in vaisnava circles. For this he was heavily criticized by some of his god brothers-(NOT ALL). Another revolutionary act which Srila did that displeased some of his god brothers was granting sannyasa to some of his very young disciples, who were no more than three years in Krsna consciousness. These were spiritual risk taking issues which warranted heavy criticism by some of his senior god brothers. He also allowed his female disciples to chant the gayatri mantra.  These acts cannot be imitated by us nor can we boast of them now.  The spiritual risks of the spiritual master are his actual mercy. He is not doing these things only because he is empowered to do it. His very first concern is the distribution of mercy and for this he empowered by Krsna to make relevant allowances according to time, place and circumstances. If we boast or become proud of these risks or mercy shown by the spiritual master, how can we say that we are thankful and undeserving of such risks or mercy. To boast or to become proud means that we deserve his mercy. We then say things like "only Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami can give us this mercy and no one else." Without thinking, we leave out his spiritual master, and all others who have come before him and also others who will come after him to help him.  This is the result of the first mistake in understanding guru tattva.-to become boastful and develop a false pride of one's spiritual master as the best including the previous acharyas. In this way if one's spiritual master is the best, then his disciples are the best. This is called false pride. It is another false ego. I am a sannyasi now. I am a brahmana. I am a GBC commissioner. I am a guru. I am the biggest book distributor in our temple. My spiritual master is better than anyone else. These are all false egos.

With this false pride and boastful attitude, a "puffed up" devotee continues to preach false siddhanta or philosophy, or Krsna consciousness not in the mood of humility of Lord Chaitanya Deva. There is no humility and feeling of worthlessness, undeserved mercy, and other lowliness feelings. Instead, there is the feeling that "we are the best for our spiritual master did what no other spiritual master has done before".  There is the feeling that "we actually deserve this mercy and we are and worthy of his pure association and no one else can give us this pure association.

With false siddhanta, such a devotee remains only on the kanistha platform- a platform which yields very little spiritual realization and very little understanding of how to recognize more advanced vaisnavas without becoming envious of such vaisnavas. Therefore such devotees have severe trouble understanding how Krsna is not dependent on only one society or one spiritual master etc. The troubled devotee with wrong guru tattva also holds on to a protection system used by his spiritual master Srila Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada, while the devotees were very young and inexperienced. Srila Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada had warned his disciples to be careful of going unrestrictedly to his god brothers without his advice and taking siksa from them. Srila Prabhupada Bhaktivedanta did not want his disciples to be confused with topics which they were not ready to hear. Since the siddhanta becomes very deep with confidential topics, it can be misunderstood by very young devotees. He therefore carefully protected them in this way. For a western devotee who was in the time of Srila Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada, to be still weary of Indian vaisnavas means that he is still on the neophyte platform. He/she has not advanced. He cannot recognize who is on what platform and therefore associate or not associate. If one does not know the qualities of gold, one cannot purchase gold. He would be robbed easily. The siddhanta the neophyte collected is not clear to him/her. He cannot decipher authentic siddhanta from bogus siddhanta. He does not know the difference between them.  He/she operates on the fear platform rather than the realized platform. Pride and false ego creates undue fear and anger. One must always be in a fight protecting his or her false pride or ego. That is the result of being to proud. One has something to protect. Srila Prabhupada Bhaktivedanta was not being proud protecting us from some of his god brothers (NOT ALL). He was like a parent who was protecting a young child from hearing adult things from other grownups. He wanted to give those same adult teachings to his children instead of his children going to hear it from any and everybody. This is called spiritual protection by the guru to his inexperienced disciples.

When Srila Prabhupada was about to leave his young inexperienced disciples, he also selected two vaisnavas who he considered qualified to assist his young disciples in their further development. One vaisnava was himself a siksa guru of Srila Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada by his own revelations to us. The other vaisnava is a disciple of his sannyass guru whom Srila Prabhupada said both encouraged him strongly to take  sannyass. This young vaisnava was himself a sannyasi who performed the fire sacrifice for Srila Bhaktivedanta's sannyasa initiation ceremony and showed Srila Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada how to wear his sannyass cloth and wrap his danda. Now all this evidence is before all present devotees. However, if some devotees remain on an envious platform, which is a symptom of the kanistha platform, they will not be able to recognize these two siksa guru vaisnavas Srila Bhaktivedanta had given to us. Such devotees revert back to the protection Srila Prabhupada Bhaktivedanta gave while he was here with us. This means they disobey the last wishes of their spiritual master and revert back to the wishes which were modified by Srila Prabhupada. Just like when an army commander says no don't go there now or you will be outnumbered. Then later he gives the order that ok things seem less offensive you can now go there. This second command remains. If someone reverts back to the first command he still disobeys the commander and can therefore end up in trouble for disobeying the commander's second and final command. This is the exact position of some ISKCON devotees who refuse to obey the very last final requests of Srila Prabhupada concerning taking siksa from his selected god brothers

The two vaisnavas herein referred to is Srila Bhakti Rakshaka Sridhar Deva Goswami Maharaja, and Srila Bhaktivedanta Narayana Maharaja. The devotees who wish to remain immature vaisnavas cannot see the empowerment given by Srila Prabhupada to these two pure vaisnavas. This empowerment now transforms itself into reality by their movements, namely the Sri Chaitanya Sarasvati Mathas and the Gaudiya Vedanta Samiti Maths- being enabled to be spread all over the world as well, and unhampered by anyone including Lord Sri Krsna Himself. The false pride devotees cannot see this sanctioned arrangement by Lord Sri Krsna. Those childlike devotees still insist that they are not to associate with any other senior and pure vaisnavas other than those found in their spiritual master's society. They not only do this but they blaspheme those two pure devotees and their disciples.

Once a devotee does not recognize the original sin of misunderstanding the proper guru tattva with regards Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada's actions concerning these two vaisnavas, the troubled devotees manifest in ISKCON in the form of so many "isms" as stated above. These are all false  philosophies which are not authentic Gaudiya vaisnava philosophy. Such false teachings that Srila Prabhupada Bhaktivedanta is the only one to spread Krsna consciousness in the Western world, cannot make for world united preaching. In order to proceed on to a world recognition of Krsna consciousness, then all devotees must give up false philosophies and not create new ones. We must understand our current diksa and siksa lines properly, in order for us to succeed. We must understand the truly last instructions given by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada in November 1977, with regards uniting the vaisnavas and proceeding on to world preaching in its purest form. There will be many branches of the Chaitanya tree, but all pure vaisnavas preach one authentic and pure siddhanta according to the six goswamis and the seventh one Srila Bhaktivinode Thakur. It was their intention and desire that Srila Prabhupada came to the west. These are the personalities who we were shown as world preachers by Srila Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada. To leave them out and simply present Srila Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada as the all and end all, is the biggest sin of all. That has never been preached by Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada. The sins of the brothers have long been forgiven by our gurudeva, and he also asked that he be forgiven by them as well. Only the sins of the sons and daughters remain. These sins will remain as long as one does not acknowledge the present protection given by Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada, Srila Bhakti Rakshaka Sridhar deva Goswami, Srila Bhakti Prajnana Kesava Maharaja, and all bonafide disciples of all three gurus, who acknowledge their eternal protection.

For further understanding of this bonafide connected branch kindly fill in the opt-in email box and  you will be sent an email once, explaining how these branches of the Chaitanya tree truly exist peacefully. A misunderstanding of this integrated chain is causing an "imagined" war. There is no war but it is imagined. Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada said  "The war is over". If someone imagines something which does not exist, that person can be called insane. The question is do you wish to be an insane person or a sane person?
