New Vrindavan & Bhaktivedanta Narayana Maharaja

BY DHRSTADYUMNA DAS

EDITORIAL, Mar 23 (VNN) — Dear respected Malati dasi,

Please accept my dandavat pranams. All glories to Sri Guru and Gauranga! I am sorry for the misunderstanding regarding the use of the words "New Vrindavan" in Srila Narayana Maharaja's tour schedule on our sanga's internal bulletin board. Of course, I doubt in today's climate of distrust, anyone could have mistaken this for an endorsement by your corporation - but hope springs eternal and heaven forbid anyone would see this as a sign of maturing relations between Vaishnavas.

Is it true that practically any other group, buddhist, american indian, yoga, etc. can rent the facilities at New Vrindavan for their conferences? How is that "clearly faithful to Srila Prabhupada and his teachings"? Whereas renting to a group of predominantly Srila Prabhupada disciples is not?
I suppose if we had used the words "near to, or 1 mile down the road from, New Vrindavan or Prabhupada's Palace of Gold" which is advertised nationally as a tourist destination, that would have been all right. Maybe you could spend some more money on lawyers asking them this for me. I will quite understand if you aren't able to, given all the other pressing legal entanglements I understand you are dealing with there, both past and present. By the way, since you appear to be in the group of ISKCON entities filing bankruptcy, does that mean the name and/or the corporation is up for grabs?

Just a few thoughts:

1. Is it true that practically any other group, buddhist, american indian, yoga, etc. can rent the facilities at New Vrindavan for their conferences? How is that "clearly faithful to Srila Prabhupada and his teachings"? Whereas renting to a group of predominantly Srila Prabhupada disciples (who have found a second wind of inspiration to serve the mission of Srila Prabhupada and all our guru parampara under the able guidance of his dearmost friend, Srila BV Narayana Maharaja) is not?

2. New Vrindavan is actually a place in Dwaraka created by Lord Krsna as described by Srila Rupa Gosvami in his Lalita Madhava. It may not be copyrightable by you as a name if we wanted to have a "New Vrindavan Katha Festival near Moundsville, WV" near your New Vrindavan to discuss these pastimes of New Vrindavan as described by Srila Rupa Gosvami in Lalita Madhava. I'm pretty sure Srila Rupa Gosvami got permission from Lord Krsna to use the name and that he doesn't mind if we use it. But your lawyers may have a different opinion from our acaryas.

3. Did you just consult lawyers and your big brothers on this? Or did you actually go deep in your prayers to Srila Prabhupada and ask him what you should do? If Srila Prabhupada was physically manifest this summer at his Palace of Gold and heard that Srila Narayana Maharaja was 1 mile down the road, do you think he would sanction your behavior and this letter. You had his personal association for a while: honestly, what do you think His Divine Grace would say? Why not take this email and disclaimer and place it at the feet of Srila Prabhupada on his vyasasana there, honestly offer your prayers for his guidance being prepared to fully accept his directions no matter what the personal consequences, and see what happens. I think you may get a surprise.

Your servant in the service of Srila Prabhupada,
Dhrstadyumna das

Subject: New Vrindavan and your plans

Respected Prabhu, my regards and obeisances. I am writing in responce to a letter of information that has come to my attention. It is a letter from yourself detailing Narayan Maharaja's up-coming tour plans. In this current edition, you are advertising New Vrindavan as a place of gathering from June 14th through June 16th. I must inform you that, as you know, NV has absolutely no intention of playing host on any level. Please correct this oversight, using proper local names for identifying your venue, if you must. As it currently stands, it is outright misleading. NV is a legally protected corporate entity and our Attorneys have advised us that we are with in our rights to insist upon this request. Please set the record straight to avoid future embarassment.

A secondary letter will be forthcoming detailing our exact position with regards to this gathering and the parameters being set by NV and its officals. As viashnaves, I am certain we can expect your full cooperation. In addition, please find an attached file with a Disclaimer to be published.

With all regards to those who preach the glories of the Holy Name, I remain firm but respectful in the above request,

Malati dasi

It has been called to the attention of New Vrindavan Management and others that Narayan Maharaja plans to hold programs there on the 14th, 15th, 16th of June. Please be advised that such advertising is misleading and false. New Vrindavan is NOT hosting or in any other way facilitating Narayan Maharaja and his followers at this time or in the forseeable future. New Vrindavan and its management will not promote or support this endeavor, nor will our facililties be available under any circumstances. While we wish these Vaishnanaves well, New Vrindavan intends to remain a loyal ISKCON entity clearly faithful to Srila Prabhupada and his teachings.
