Bhakti Charu Swami: "Tripurari Swami Caused The Most Damage To Iskcon"

BY TAPANA MISHRA DAS

EDITORIAL, Feb 6 (VNN) — A few days ago Bhakti Charu Swami posted the following derogatory comments about Tripurari Swami on his web-site. At a time when ISKCON is experiencing such horrendous turbulence Maharaj singles out the one person, in his opinion, as being responsible for the damage, amongst other things, to our society.

The following is from Maharaj's website.

Disciple: "what about Srila Prabhupada was once told about Tripurari Swami selling a book to a lady by telling her that the book was about the power shortage in California?"

Bhakti Caru Swami: "I don't know in what context Srila Prabhupada was told that. These are misconceptions that caused so much damage to our society. In my opinion Tripurari caused the most damage to ISKCON. He destroyed book distribution. He introduced lying, changing up, cheating... and if he is so dear to Srila Prabhupada and loves Srila Prabhupada so much, then why did he leave him? Why did he leave ISKCON? These are not personalities to follow. I know that Srila Prabhupada was a very honest and noble man.

Bhakti Caru Swami, a Guru, Sannayasi, and GBC, upheld for many years as saintly, singles-out and levels three very serious accusations against Tripurari Swami as following:

1.Tripurari Swami, caused the most damage to ISKCON?
2. Tripurari Swami, destroyed book distribution?
3. Tripurari Swami, introduced lying, changing up, cheating?

He then questions Tripurari Swamis loyalty to Srila Prabhupada by adding, and if he is so dear to Srila Prabhupada and loves Srila Prabhupada so much, then why did he leave him? Why did he leave ISKCON?

After blaming Tripurari Swami, Maharaj now passes judgement condemning Tripurari Swami by saying, "These are not personalities to follow."

When devotees were struggling to distribute books that were piling up in temples Tripurari Swami was sincerely endeavoring to please Srila Prabhupada by constantly formulating means and ways to distribute books, encouraging devotees to do the same, etc .His efforts paid-off and surely pleased Srila Prabhupada who named Tripurari Swami -the incarnation of book distribution. And all of this was before Bhakti Caru Swami joined ISKCON.

As is the norm in present-day ISKCON, if Tripurari Swami were a Guru or GBC in Maharaj would have glorified Tripurari Swami, conveniently overlooking his "faults", if any.

Maharaj shows his blatantly disregard for Srila Prabhupada when he posts on his website his "opinion" on who caused the MOST damage to ISKCON and forgets Srila Prabhupadas "opinion" of Tripura Swami as the "the incarnation of book distribution."

Devotees all over the world have given their lives to serving Srila Prabhupada. All devotees past, present and future (Tripurari Swami included) are indeed dear to Srila Prabhupada.

Therefore Srila Prabhupada built a house for the whole world to live in and Maharaj is definitely not the authority nor qualified to judge who stays in this house or not.

End of letter.

Transcript of Maharajas posting on his web-site:

The term "Gurumaharaj" is referring to Bhakti Charu Swami.

From:Candrasekhar Acarya (das) BCS (Los Angeles, CA - USA) Date:16-Jan-01 16:27 To:BCS Istagosthi [1097]

I asked about mundane morality and ethics. Guru Maharaja said, "a devotee is very concerned about morality and ethics. The point is that without Krsna Consciousness, mundane ethics and morality are useless. But as we become Krsna conscious, we automatically become moral and ethical." I said, "what about Ramanujacarya who hired gundas" What about Srila Prabhupada saying that one could sell books by hook or by crook" Guru Maharaja replied, "Ramanuja finished by drowning them.

You know that" He knew that these gundas would cause trouble, so he drowned them in the middle of a river. And "Hook by crook" means "by any means," not by "crook"." I mentionned, "what about Srila Prabhupada was once told about Tripurari Swami selling a book to a lady by telling her that the book was about the power shortage in California" Guru Maharaja said, "I don't know in what context Srila Prabhuada was told that. These are misconceptions that caused so much damage to our society. In my opinion Tripurari caused the most damage to ISKCON. He destroyed book distribution. He introduced lying, changing up, cheating...and if he is so dear to Srila Prabhupada and loves Srila Prabhupada so much, then why did he leave him? Why did he leave ISKCON? These are not personalities to follow. I know that Srila Prabhupada was a very honest and noble man."

END.
