Preaching Berlin 1933

TRANSCRIBED BY URUKRAMA DAS

EDITORIAL, Aug 29 (VNN) — Excerpt from the lecture delivered at Lessing Hochschechule, Berlin, Geramy on 9th November, 1933. By His Holiness Swami Bhakti Hridaya Bon Maharaja.

Transcribed by Urukrama das (disciple of Om Visnupad Bhakti Promod Puri Goswami Maharaja).

The self-forgetful soul does not know what God really is. He may be all in dreamland, he may live in imagination, but Reality is revealed only to those who have been freed from the two-fold shackles of the body and the mind. So Sri Caitanya started his mission of the Divine Name, the Name of God.

“The self-seeking: "I love Thee, O my Lord! Than I shall be happy", is not pure Love, says Sri Caitanya.”

In the Bible, St. John said, "In the beginning, was the Word and the Word was with God and, the Word was God." The same thing has been said by Sri Caitanya. But he certainly developed this idea, how the Word is God. The Word, the Transcendental Word, the Name of God, is absolutely different from any mundane word. The Name of God is all transcendental. It is a Complete Whole. It is Absolutely Identified with the Personality of the Lord---with His Form, His Qualities, His Associates, His Realm, and His Pastimes. These are all Concomitant Factors in the conception of the Absolute Whole, we call the Divinity. And, therefore, Name is just like the bud, in which there are the petals, the beauty, the fragrance, but they are not seen in the non-blooming state of the flower, the bud. Now the bud blooms. From out of it, the things that are already there, unfold; the petals, fragrance, beauty. So, also, Name is like bud of the Divinity, and the Name unfolds (I say "Himself" purposely, because the Name is not a neuter entity. It is not a non-conscious entity-it is all consciousness).

It is the Lord Himself. Therefore, the Name unfolds Himself into His All-Beauteous Form, of His Own Form, The Transcendental Person, the Lord Divine, and, together, all His innumerable, inconceivable Qualities-not mundane, limited qualities, but innumerable Qualities, that all belong to Him alone-They are unfolded. The Name unfolds. And the Name unfolds the Spiritual Realm. That is, the Kingdom of God-The Realm where the Lord exists, not in limited space of three-dimensions, but in the transcendental, fourth dimensional plane, eternal exists. It is in the Name.

It is identified with the Name. So also, do His Eternal Associates, eternally co-existing with Him, for His Services, for His Love.

So the Name unfolds His Associates, and also His activities in relation to the freed souls, what we call Mukta Purusa, the souls, which have been completely freed from the body and mind (Mind, Intelligence, and Ego). Entirely freed.

The Lord reciprocates. We submit - He accept. We love - He gives us Love in return. We love Him for His Pleasure. The soul does not love God, does not serve God, for the pleasure or benefit, spiritual or otherwise, of the individual - that is lust! The self-seeking: "I love Thee, O my Lord! Than I shall be happy", is not pure Love, says Sri Caitanya.

Sri Caitanya's conception of Love is this: anything that we do physically, mentally or even spirituaally, for the enjoyment of the individual or individuals of the world - is lust. But anything the soul does completely for the Supreme Satisfaction of the Desires of the Spiritual Senses of the Lord alone that is Love. Here is a clear-cut conception of Love.

I have been far away from the Lord for how long I do not know! Lord! Accept me, my Beloved One; if Thou forget me, I cannot forget Thee. Thou art my only Hope and only Refuge.
