Answering Dravida Dasa's "Trouble"

BY LILASUKA DAS

EDITORIAL, Jun 19 (VNN) — Answering Dravida Dasa's Trouble Concerning the Teachings of Srila Narayana Maharaja and the Origin of the Jiva

This material world is not false to the Gaudiya vaisnavas of Mahaprabhu. We accept that it is a reflection of the spiritual world. In material sciences new comers are given incomplete but more easily understandable principles before being presented with the more difficult sciences. The Bore theory of the atom is presented before introducing new students to quantum mechanics and Newton's mechanics are taught before discussing the general theory of relativity.

If our instructor leaves the planet before we are experienced enough for him to teach us the higher principles then we must take further instruction from some one who knows. If this new teacher gives us the higher principles it does not mean that the first teacher or the second is lying to us. One of the qualities of a Vaisnava is that of humility. If one is seeing that there is some difference between the teachings of Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaja Prabhupada and Srila Bhaktivedanta Narayana Maharaja than first we must think that the problem is with one's own understanding not with others.

Lord Brahma has given us the means for solving our misunderstandings in Srimad-Bhagavatam,

jnane prayasam udapasya namanta eva, namanta eva, san-mukharitam bhavadiya-vartam.

The purport is that you should give up this bad habit of speculation. Jnane prayasam. Prayasam means endeavor: "I shall get this knowledge by speculating." This is called jnana-prayasam, endeavoring uselessly for knowledge. So udapasya. You give it up. Jnane prayasam udapasya namanta. Just become submissive. Don't think yourself that you are very learned. Because if the senses are imperfect, how can you be learned?

Understanding by research means to enquire about what the senior vaisnavas have to say and to please them so that they will be able to give us some understanding.

What does Srila Bhaktivinode Thakura have to say in Jaiva Dharma?
What does the diksa guru of Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaja, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura say?
What does the sannyas guru of Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaja, Srila Bhakti Prajnan Kesava Maharaja say?
What does the siksa guru of Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaja, Srila Sridhara Maharaja say?
What do the remaining God brothers of Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaja say?
What does the most senior siksa disciple of Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaja, Srila Bhaktivedanta Narayana Maharaja say?

If you want to understand these issues you must surrender to someone who knows and be patient. Our bad samskaras and wrong understandings will stop us from being able to receive everything at once.

A kanistha adhikari only has faith in his own guru. Therefore, he can not surrender to others nor understand beyond the level of what his own guru is or was able to give him. But if one can come to the platform of the madhyama adhikari he will know who is a vaisnava, be one himself and accept all vaisnavas as his gurus. All of their teaching can now be harmonized and one realizes the problems with understanding is really within himself.
