The Ghost Of Harikesh Haunting COM?
BY KURMA RUPA KRSNADAS
EDITORIAL, Apr 14 (VNN) Does Harikesh have any connection to COM Dandavats? Guru gouranga jayatah. Thank you Puridas Prabhu for your thoughtful response to my article.
You think that my assumption that Harikesh is connected to COM (PAMHO) is not true. Well it is a matter of opinion. No one will actually know that unless system operators will admit to it themselves. However let us consider a few facts. It is an obvious observation that all the people with sysop privileges (and there are few of them) are disciples of Harikesh. It is also true that EC GBC has asked Raktambara who was the sysop at the time to take Harikesh from COM and he said no. As I heard recently he had stepped down for a while from the position of Sysop and made his wife Makya a Sysop and only when COM became independent from the authority of BBT has he made himself a the main Sysop again. Devotees who are still in ISKCON also may think that no fellow devotee reads their letters. You seem to me not overly concern about it, but others are. | |
The "Ghost" of Harikesh is still very much present on COM. Actually COM software has been changed (September 1998) in order for him to remain on COM in a special hidden capacity. No one except for system operators can know if he ever logged on. And as I heard from one of my gurubhais in Sweden he definitely can as the new COM server location is just couple of minutes away from where he lives. You say that it is a standard thing' that mail can be monitored.
PAMHO sysop has himself admitted that he does reads mail: He writes in response to the article: "As far as administrators are concerned (meaning Ramakanta and myself), we do not need to log into your account to run a command for you, so we do not need your password. You simply have to trust us, in the same way as you have to trust the administrators of the servers where your mail is passing through until it reaches the recipient. You know us, but you have no idea about the other administrators on the way.
Personally, I can say that I have other hobbies than reading people's mail. (And I even don't have much time for my hobbies.)" So will you trust them? Or rather trust the professional guy managing a huge server with 50.000 POP3 e-mail boxes. After all administrator karmi has no interest in your e-mails. I'm not sure if you knew all of that. I myself have got this information through a third party, as I'm not on COM for last 3 years. I can tell what I think to other people here in Birmingham, but to warn others I had to write this article to VNN.
Nowadays PAMHO is open to no-ISKCON members and they may think that they can get private e-mail in this way. Devotees who are still in ISKCON also may think that no fellow devotee reads their letters. You seem to me not overly concern about it, but others are.
Your servant, Kurma Rupa Krsnadas
