Undying Rtvikism In Alachua?
BY DRAVINAKSA DAS
EDITORIAL, Feb 6 (VNN) (see also VNN Story 5353)
If the one thing Alachua does is to give the disciples of Srila Prabhupada, who gave their best years to the service of Prabhupada's mission, relief from the GBC Thought Police, we have accomplished something! But a lot of other great stuff is happening here also: four schools, many devotee businesses, good temple attendance, great kirtans and prasadam, and a genuine tolerance of people's personal opinions. Both men and women give class here. Why? Because Prabhupada wanted us to give class to solidify our understanding of Krishna consciousness. We joined this movement to become illuminated with knowledge and to fall in love with Krishna. Not to become blind followers directed by a corrupt bureaucracy. | |
We joined this movement to become illuminated with knowledge and to fall in love with Krishna. Not to become blind followers directed by a corrupt bureaucracy. THE WORLD NEEDS ENLIGHTENED LEADERSHIP, not more lemmings.
Now as for the guru issue, you can begin to understand it with two words: spiritual and master. Spiritual means eternal, beyond time and space, unaffected by the five factors of action and the three modes of nature, pure Krishna consciousness. Master means one who has complete knowledge, who has attained perfection. Spiritual master must be 100% Krishna conscious. Srila Prabhupada says it best in Bhagavad Gita 4:42:
"A bonafide spiritual master is in the disciplic succession from time eternal and does not deviate at all from the instruction of the Supreme Lord as they were imparted millions of years ago to the Sun-god from whom the instructions have come down to this earthly kingdom. One should therefor follow the path of Bhagavad Gita as it is expressed in the Gita itself and beware of self interested people after personal aggrandizement who deviate others from the path."
Note: I don't deserve the title "most notorious dyed in the wool ritvic" as there are many others who have done much more than me for this great cause.
May Prabhupada be with you! Your servant, Dravinaksa Das
