Vedic Cultural Fellowship Opens New Center In New Mexico

BY HAMSAVATAR DAS

EDITORIAL, Jan 18 (VNN) — The Vedic Cultural Fellowship is opening a new temple and healing center in the lush mountains of northern New Mexico. Hamsavatar das, director of the VCF, plans this as a unique Vaishnava project in that there is cooperation with other Hindu groups in the area in propogating and teaching the vedic sciences of jyotish and ayurveda.

There is a temple to Sri Sri Radha-Krishna in the main house at present, but plans are to build an authentic south Indian temple, guest facilities, an institution for both adult and children's education, an ayurvedic hospital, guest facilities, and cottage industries to support the community which will undoubtedly spring up around the temple. Land will also be set aside for building individual housing for families.

Although the project will host visiting sanyassis for preaching programs, there is not an ashram for bramacaris. Staff is comprised of householders mainly, and also includes practitioners of the healing arts from other Hindu organizations.

The setting for the project is in an "oasis" of the northern New Mexico high desert. Surrounded by national forest and situated on the Pecos river, the center is filled with tall trees, both evergreen and fruit bearing, and arable land for crops, herb gardens, etc.

Although the web site has not yet been updated with news and photos of the new VCF center, devotees with some interest in such a project can see our website at http://www.rt66.com/balaji or contact Hamsavatar at balaji@cybermesa.com
